A HYGGEKROG – A NOOK THE HYGGE WAY…

The Danish say that every home needs a ‘Hyggekrog‘, which means ‘a nook‘.

It basically means it’s the place in your room where you love to sit or lie under a blanket with your favourite book or magazine and a cup of tea.

You can easily make your own ‘Hyggekrog’ in your home, just find that quiet area and pop your cushions and blanket ready for you to relax and chill.

Apparently, many of the buildings in Copenhagen have bay windows which are transformed with cushions and blankets for people to sit and relax after a busy day.

That doesn’t mean to say you need a window to create your ‘Hyggekrog‘ just a cozy area that is suitable for you to relax in.

Yes, light some candles, open a bottle of wine, and try to forget about your credit card balance. It’s a key element of practicing hygge. Create hygge by burning candles more often and during simple, everyday moments. Light a candle in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

THE KEY TO HAPPINESS…

The key to happiness may be to live the ‘Hygge’ lifestyle. The word ‘Hygge‘originates from a Norweign word meaning ‘well-being‘. For almost five hundred years, Denmark and Norway were one kingdom, until Denmark lost Norway in 1814.

Hygge‘ appeared in written Danish for the first time in the early 1800’s, and the link between hygge and well being or happiness maybe no coincidence.

Danes are the happiest people in Europe according to the European Social Survey and found in The Little Book of Hygge, The Danish Way to Live Well‘, by Meik Wiking.
